THE MEX FACTOR: Thank you, patrons

More than a century ago, in the then-small town turned into an American expat paradise San Miguel de Allende in the State of Guanajuato, the cradle of the Independence of Mexico and to where part of my ancestors extend, was born who in life was known as the Nightingale of the Americas or Continental Tenor. Perhaps many, especially young people, are unaware of the legacy and significance of actor and tenor Pedro Vargas. Surely mariachi music lovers remember songs like 鈥淓l Rey,鈥 鈥淭e Solt茅 la Rienda,鈥 鈥淢i Paloma Triste,鈥 鈥淰olver, Volver,鈥 鈥淐ruz de Olvido,鈥 Que Te Vaya Bonito,鈥 鈥淕ranada,鈥 鈥淐ielito Lindo鈥 and many more that other singers recorded after Don Pedro Vargas. The many songs that he recorded during his lifetime and the dozens of films in which he participated have been somewhat lost in time, but his most famous phrase.

鈥淰ery grateful, very grateful, very grateful鈥 was the six-word summary that he used when expressing his pleasure with his audience. Where he got that phrase from, I don鈥檛 know, but now I want to take advantage of the prayer to share it with all of you.

Before everyone starts preparing their turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner or rushes to travel to meet their loved ones on this important date, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to those who make it possible for yours truly to continue writing for you. Before anyone else, I must thank God for allowing me to open my eyes every day and continue with this work of informing the public within my limited capabilities. Secondly, I must thank my colleagues and supervisors for supporting my work despite the mistakes made.

No less important, thank you to those who read us, because it is you who make it possible for one to continue wanting to come to the office to investigate, question, and write about the topics relevant to our community, as well as those topics that interest the reader.

Furthermore, my special thanks go to those who have supported us financially, either with their loyalty through the payment of their subscriptions, whether in the printed or digital edition. At the same time, thanks to those who, by paying for their advertising, allow us to pay taxes, salaries, public services, and cover other expenses.

Of course, I cannot leave aside my family, whom I have sometimes put aside for my journalistic work. I clarify that I try to do it as little as possible, but sometimes it is practically unavoidable.

On the other hand, I am extremely grateful to my coworkers, who in one way or another support my work and give me stories that enrich my knowledge.

At the same time, I must thank those who contribute facts or comments that allow me to develop stories so that others know them through these pages. Of course, the list of thanks also includes all those people who in one way or another contribute with their statements, emails, messages, calls, and, above all, their time so that the stories are the best possible for the reading public since without their contributions the information would remain incomplete.

Last, but surely not least, I must thank those who criticize, sometimes even without basis, the work I鈥檝e done this year and in previous years, since due to their comments it is possible to correct, to the best of my ability, any mistake.

By the way, speaking of errors, before finishing this column I want to extend my apologies to all those people who, without intending to do so, I have affected with my writings. There haven鈥檛 been many, but to the few who have gone through this bad experience, my most sincere apologies.

I truly hope that at your Thanksgiving dinner there is as much food as possible, but above all, that there is peace and the spirit of brotherhood and love that should be the real objective of this celebration.
